Trocabrahma Podcast Episode 3: King Creosote meets Romulo Froes

October 8th, 2007 Posted by King Creosote

Trocabrahma Podcast Episode 3King Creosote meets Romulo Froes fusing Scottish folk rock with contemporary Bossa Nova. KC and his band visit the market in Sao Paulo, marvel at the pigs trotters and eat fruits you wouldn’t wear. We meet independent Brasilian label Mondo Melhor records and new bossa singer Julio Bareto and hear about new bossa, samba and maracatu music in Brasil. King Creosote’s band talk about how they found the collaborative process, and then get Romulo’s side of the story. Kenny from King Creosote learns a little Portuguese and there’s exclusive live music from Trocabrahma gigs, recorded for the Trocabrahma podcast in Sao Paulo in May and the UK in July 2007.

I wanna know more about the pigs trotters and all the piglets. Did the sight of them really stop King Creosote from eating pork?

Who’d have thought the sound of scottish accents singing in Brazilian could be so dreamy? Certainly brightening up my wet and dark October day in the UK!

To my knowledge, Mr Creosote has been a veggie for many years, but I’m sure the sight of the pig-parts would be enough to turn many a meat eater off. However, the rest of the KC band are all hardened carnivores and they thoroughly enjoyed pigging out on all manner of mysterious meats at a traditional Brazilian churrascaria (they even gobbled up chicken hearts!).

In fact, there’s a great bit about chicken hearts (Diplo’s favourite) coming up in the next episode but that’s enough sneak previews for now… I really like the music in this one. I think Alfredo Bello is fascinating and the Romulo and KC music is beautiful, especially that last song.

Yeh that last tune is great. Can’t pronounce the portuguese but I think King C does a pretty good job. I wonder if that’s available to download anywhere?

Another cracking episode folks - nice work!

All the chat in the market is an absolute winner…”It’s like sweet fish” - priceless.

I agree the music ain’t half bad either!

This is terrific, possibly the best yet. Kenny’s response to Romulo Fruoso is so spontaneous. I am listening right now – it really deserves a huge audience.
